Students have hit the ground running as we dive into 2021! 2nd grade is learning all about our Higher-Level Thinking skills and how we can apply those strategies across all subject areas. Both 2nd and 3rd graders love trying out new math strategy games, especially Kakooma! They love cheering on their classmates as they stretch their quick-thinking to solve each level. Third grade is also wrapping up their "Batty for Bats!" study by researching the species that appeals to them most, gathering facts and writing poetry about their chosen bat. 4th and 5th graders have finished studying, analyzing, and performing A Midsummer Night's Dream, just in time to begin a Shakespearean tragedy--Romeo and Juliet. We will begin conducting table reads and acting out scenes from this classic tale next week. Brainstorming, writing and illustrating original rhyming riddles, and more have kept us very busy. All students are eager to explore the many ideas and events February has to offer--look out for logical and creative thinking activities relating to Black History Month, Groundhog Day, and Valentine's Day!

All the world's a stage, and the 4th and 5th graders at Farmington merely players...Shakespearean scholars have been busily studying up on all things Shakespeare. We recently made Elizabethan "ruff" collars to wear while honing our acting skills onstage. First up is "A Midsummer Night's Dream" as students identify elements of Shakespeare's comedies. We've thought logically to calculate important dates with a math-based Timeless Timeline, logic puzzles, and more. Next week, we will put a pause on our Shakespearean studies for some winter-themed activities using our Higher-Level Thinking skills. Stay tuned!
